Swype Inc. and Nokia are proud to introduce Swype Beta for Symbian.

Swype provides : a faster and easier way to input text on any screen. With one continuous finger or stylus motion across the screen keyboard, the patented technology enables users to input words faster and easier than other data input methodsat over 40 words per minute. The application is designed to work across a variety of devices such as phones, tablets, game consoles, kiosks, televisions, virtual screens and more.

Swype for Symbian Beta Update - What's new in v1.0.16481 :

Thanks in no small part to your feedback on the previous beta releases, we are now happy to bring you a release candidate of Swype for S60 5th Edition phones. This is currently on its way to final quality testing for Ovi Store, and we wanted you testers to have first free version at it.

An awful lot of changes have been made to the application since the last update, not the least of which is better support for language downloads and language performance improvements. You'll also find the Copy and Paste now appear in the Settings menu as well as the Edit Layer, and a lot of bugs have been quashed.

Please let us know immediately if you find anything that you would consider a show-stopper. Also let us know about the minor issues, of course.

A different version is now uploaded here with the same name. This should resolve the certificate issues.

What's new in Swype Languages :

We are now starting to make extra languages available for Swype. You can find them on the download page right under the link for the main application. You wil still need the main Swype application installed before you can install the Language Dictionary. More languages will be added as they become available.

Installation :

You can install Swype via Nokia PC Suite or SD card. You will be prompted to reboot your device following installation. Swype will not function properly until the input method is properly reloaded via reboot. If you are upgrading from Alpha Labs/Backstage, please uninstall the old version completely and reboot before attempting to install the Beta.

If you do not see the Swype keyboard following installation, make sure your Writing Language is set to one of Swype's supported languages (English, Spanish, Canadian French, Portuguese) or additional languages. For help with activating Swype in portrait, check out the FAQ located under More Info.

Feedback

Swype : is excited for this opportunity to have Nokia Beta Labs users road test the next generation of text input for Symbian. Swype for S60 5th Edition devices is feature complete and nearing it's final stages of development. We will not be making any major changes to Swype, but your feedback and bug reports are highly appreciated and useful.

Getting started

Swype's underlying technology and QWERTY keyboard layout make it quick and easy to learn. This getting started guide will go through some features of Swype that are not immediately apparent. All of this information can be found in Swype Help which is accessible on your device by launching the keyboard and press-holding on the Swype key.

Double Letters :

To enter a double letter within a word just squiggle or make a loop over that letter.

The Word Choice Window :

When Swype isn't certain of the word you intended to enter, it displays a window with a list of other possible matches. If you continue Swyping, the first word in the list will be entered. If your intended word appears lower in the window, set your finger down anywhere in the Word Choice Window and Swype to the right through your intended word.

Adding a new word to the Swype dictionary :

You can teach Swype any new word by simply tapping it in letter by letter. For instance, you can add the word Espoo by tapping in E-S-P-O-O, then pressing the space key. Once you've added the word, it becomes immediately Swypeable from the main keyboard layer. To remove a word from the dictionary, highlight the word that you want to delete, and then tap the Swype key.
If you are adding an email address, password or other non-alphanumeric entry to the dictionary, tap in the string you wish to add, select the text using the Edit layer, and press the Swype Key.
